Prototype One
The Prototype One was the culmination of my runaway covid hobby of repairing old watches. I wanted one watch but in the process of building that watch it became clear that unless I was going to marry rich or win the lottery, I’d need to make and sell a few extras.
The original plan was to build the watches at a local maker space on their manual lathe and mills. This effort went on for about six months before the results led me to building my own cnc machinery capable of meeting the tolerances needed. The design stayed the same though, as simple as I could make it without compromising the final goal of making myself a robust and elegant, go anywhere watch.
A 316L Stainless case measures 10mm thick with 1.5mm sapphire crystals protecting the front and back. A simple 18-8 stainless snapping holds the rear sapphire against a 1mm o-ring seal and allows the seal to improve as water pressure rises. The dial is a fully engraved piece of brass with inlaid lacquer markings and superluminova X1 numbers. The black finish is a black oxide coating chemically grown onto the surface of the brass after the engraving and inlay.
1095 steel hands are also filled with lume and the second hand has a red/orange enamel coat.
The watch is powered by a Swiss Sellita Sw300 automatic movement with a 56 hour power reserve.

As a single human watchmaking factory the delivery time of your timepiece is somewhat flexible. I’m slowly streamlining the process of standardizing parts and tools to speed up the manufacturing but even still, expect three months from order to delivery. Maybe less. Maybe a lil bit more. I’ll keep you in the loop.
